President: Kevin Inn
Kevin Inn has served as a board member since 2007, currently as the President and formerly as At-Large Director, Treasurer, and Vice-President. He is the President of Better Homes and Gardens Real Estate. With over 20 years of sales and marketing experience, Kevin was previously the General Manager for Clearwire Hawaii, Vice President of Sales and Regional Sales Manager for Verizon Hawaii and GTE Hawaiian Tel. He has a Bachelors of Industrial Psychology from California State University. Kevin is an avid USTA League player and has competed at the USTA National Championships. He has been an active parent-coach for Kilauea Tennis Club Jr. Team Tennis and has taken both of his children to compete at the USTA National Team Tennis Championships.
Vice President: Walter Wong
Walter is now retired after a career in financial management at the Kaiser Foundation Health Plan in Hawaii. Prior to Kaiser Walter was a CPA and senior auditor with Deloitte & Touche, CPAs, in Honolulu. Walter received a BA from the University of Hawaii at Manoa with a major in accounting and a minor in economics. He also served as an officer in the United States Army. Walter served on the Executive Committee of the USTA Hawaii Pacific Section in many capacities including Treasurer, Vice President, President and Delegate. He has also served on several national USTA committees including the Awards Committee, the Service Counsel, and the Administration Committee.He is an avid league tennis player and has competed at national league championships a number of times.
Secretary: Donna Ede
Donna Ede has served as a board member since 2010, currently as Secretary. In 2012 she retired as the State Health and Physical Education Specialist for the Hawaii State Department of Education. Donna is a highly-regarded instructor/educator and has an extensive background in physical education and health education in Hawaii and internationally. She has a Bachelor of Science and a Masters in Education from Pacific University. Donna is an all-around athlete and coach for tennis, volleyball and soccer and an active community volunteer for the American Heart Association, Kaho’omiki – Hawai’i Council on Physical Activity from Keiki to Kupuna and the Kinesiology and Rehabilitative Science Department of the University of Hawaii Manoa to name just a few.
Treasurer: Shari Fujita
Shari Fujita is new to the board however comes with extensive finance experience as Vice President Accounting of the Outrigger Enterprises Group. She previously worked at the State of Hawaii – House Committee on Finance (1997 Legislative Session) and KPMG Peat Marwick. Shari has a Bachelors of Finance from Indiana University and is a Certified Public Accountant. Shari and her family are active tennis enthusiasts and it started with her two daughters starting in the Quick Start Program and progressing into the competitive Junior Team Tennis.
Section Delegate: Russell Lum
Russell Lum has been a board member since 2009 and is currently the Section Delegate and formerly as President, Vice President, and Treasurer. Russell is the Vice President and Deputy Legal Division Manager for the Bank of Hawaii and has held prominent positions at financial institutions including Central Pacific Bank, City Bank and Bank of America. He has a Bachelors of Arts and Juris Doctor from the University of California and is a member of the Hawaii State Bar Association. Russell has participated in both USTA Adult League and Honolulu Tennis League. He was very active with Jr. Team Tennis and was a Board Director for Mid-Pacific Institute’s athletic program. Russell is passionate about promoting and supporting Tennis as the Sport of Opportunity because he believes it has provided him with opportunities to be a player, coach, parent, competitor, cheerleader, fund-raiser and board member.
Director At Large: Vince Baldemor
Vince is the Executive Director of Athletics for Hawaii Pacific University. In this position he is responsible for the university’s 14 intercollegiate teams, campus recreation and the cheer & dance teams. Prior to HPU, Vince was the President of Ahahui Koa Anuenue, the nonprofit organization for University of Hawaii Athletics. He previously worked for the International Management Group (IMG) and managed tennis and other sporting events throughout the United States. Vince has a BS degree from De Paul University and an MBA from the University of Notre Dame. He is a member of several community organizations including the NFL Pro Bow Host Committee, the ESPN Diamond Head Classic, the Honolulu City & county Grants in Aid Commission and the Filipino Community Center Board.
Director At Large: Pom Luxton
Pom Luxton has been a board member since 2011. She is the Loan Manager – Private Lending Group of American Savings Bank and formerly Vice President and Manager for Bank of Hawaii’s Loan Management Center and Private Banking Group. For more than ten years she has been a top mortgage originator and has managed over 100 high net worth individuals. Pom is passionate about tennis and is an avid USTA League 4.0, World Team Tennis 4.0 and Hawaii Tennis League A-2 player. She has captained several teams in each league, often representing Hawaii at the National Championships for over the past 10 years. She is an active Board Member at the Beretania Tennis Club that has organized new membership drives, social club play and league participation.
Director At Large: Josh Potterton
Josh is a financial advisor with Edward Jones. In this position he advises clients on financial planning, creates net worth portfolios and trains and mentors new financial advisors. Prior to Edward Jones, Josh worked for Sports Illustrated and Viacom’s MTV. Josh has a BS degree in business administration from the University of Arizona in Tucson, Arizona with a major in marketing and a minor in media arts. Josh is an active USTA and HTL league player and he has captained more than 15 USTA league teams.
Director At Large: Betsy Purpura
Betsy Purpura has been a board member since 2009. She is a tennis instructor for the Oahu Club and was a former professional player, collegiate coach and USTA Hawaii Pacific Section Junior Competition Director. Betsy has a Bachelor of Arts from the University of Arizona and a Masters in Business Administration from Fordham University Graduate School of Business Administration. As a competitive junior player, she is very accomplished at the sectional, national and international levels. She is a well-decorated collegiate player at the University of Arizona and was a professional player on the Women’s Tennis Association tour for two years and played in all the Grand Slam events. Betsy previously was the Women’s Head Coach at Seton Hall University for four years. In 2011, Betsy was awarded the USTA Hawaii Pacific’s Tennis Hall of Fame Player Award.
Director At Large: David Lam
David Lam is new to the board however comes with far reaching experience within the tennis community. He is the owner of S.G. Lam Customs Brokers, LLC. and devotes his time to coaching tennis as a USPTA Teaching Professional. David has a Bachelors in Business from the University of San Francisco. He is the Assistant Boy’s Varsity Coach and teaching professional for Punahou School and formerly of Beretania Tennis Club, Bruce Nagel Tennis Academy and University of San Francisco. David has been the Tournament Director of Spring and Summer Sectionals for the past 3 years and former National Coach for the Hawaii Pacific 12s, 14s and 16s Zone Teams. He was formerly one of the top ranked juniors and was ranked No.1 in singles and doubles in Hawaii and at the University of San Francisco. David continues to play in HTL Men’s A League and in USTA tournaments.
Director At Large: Ann Miller
Ann is a free -lance writer after a 30 year career as a sportswriter with the Honolulu Star Advertiser. Her areas of newspaper coverage included golf, tennis, NCAA volleyball, NCAA basketball, Olympic sports, and high school and college sports. Ann is the co-author with Dave Shoji of “Wahine volleyball: 40 years Coaching Hawaii’s Team”. The book was released in 2014. Ann received a BA degree in journalism and physical education from San Francisco State. Ann is an avid tennis player and golfer. She was inducted into the USTA Hawaii Pacific Section Hall of Fame in 2013.
Director At Large: Windy Cummings
Windy Cummings has been a board member since 2011. She is a devoted elementary teacher, tennis director and ILH intermediate and varsity coach at Le Jardin Academy and previously at Punahou School. Windy has a Bachelor of Arts and Professional Diploma in Elementary Education from the University of Hawaii. She was a ranked junior and open tennis player that played for the University of Hawaii. Windy has competed as a USTA League 5.0 player at several USTA National Championships. She has held a USPTA P2 certification for over 20 years and is a teaching professional and Manager at the Kaneohe Marine Corps Tennis Academy. Windy has been a Junior Team Tennis and Zonal team coach for several seasons. She was also previously a sales representative for six years with Recreation Systems International (distributor for Prince Manufacturing).
Director At Large: Chris Scharein
Chris Scharein has been a board member since 2003 and has been the Maui District President since 2002. While Maui District President, she has established many programs and initiatives for several areas and levels of promoting tennis in the community. In addition, Chris served as the Hawaii Pacific Section Secretary, District-Delegate-Maui, as well as on the Adult League, Strategic Planning, Officials, Marketing and USTA Operations Council Committees. She was formerly a Human Resource Manager at Intel Corporation for over 20 years before she retired to Maui. Chris has a Bachelor in Business Administration from Eau Claire State University. On the court, she has served as a player, team captain and an USTA Official. Chris is a competitive USTA League player that has competed at the USTA National Championships. She also enjoys the arts and is the current board member and show chair for Art Maui.
Kauai Delegate: Dan Miyamoto
Dan Miyamoto has been an officer and lieutenant with the Kaua’i Police Department for over 26 years. He is a graduate of Castle High School, Honolulu Community College and University of Hawaii in Manoa. His is a passionate tennis player that played on his high school team and continues to enjoy the game with friends through Adult, Mixed and Ekolu eagues. In addition to serving on the USTA Hawaii Pacific Section board as the Kaua’i delegate, he is on the Kaua’i Tennis Association Board and Koloa Missionary Church Board.
Maui Delegate: Kris Oyama
Kris Oyama is a Maui District Board member, serving as Treasurer since 2008. She has competed in the USTA leagues since 1993 and enjoyed representing Hawaii at the Nationals and the Tri-Level Championships in Indian Wells. She was the first female firefighter hired in the state of Hawaii, serving twenty years in the Maui Fire Department. Since retiring as a Captain in 2000, she has become an avid competitor at the bi-annual World Police Fire Games, earning medals in tennis and a few other challenging events at the rotating international venues.
Oahu Delegate: Franklin Chee
Franklin is the principal of Insurance Agency of Hawai`i, LLC, has been a Director on the HTL Board for over 15 years, and captain of numerous teams competing in the USTA and HTL leagues. He is still active in all USTA programs, tennis workshops and special projects, and is a certified tennis instructor and teacher of aerobic tennis at Ala Moana Park. He was recently appointed to serve as ODTA’s District Delegate to the Hawai`i Pacific Section.
East Hawaii Delegate: Ray Hasegawa
Raymond has served on the East Hawaii District board for the last eight years and on the Hawaii Pacific Section, Board of Directors for six years. He has been the board liaison, member and chair for the junior committee and was a certified referee. He has been a recreational tennis player for over 25 years and has participated in and captained USTA League teams. Raymond was an active member of Hilo Junior Tennis Club and Hilo High School Tennis Boosters while his two daughters played junior tennis. His wife, Gerry, is on the USTA Hawaii Pacific Section’s collegiate committee and his family was awarded the Hawaii Pacific Section ‘Family of the Year’ in 2000. Off the court he is a self-employed attorney specializing in real estate & estate planning, business, elder law and probate. He is active in the Hawaii Island community through serving on various boards including Hospice of Hilo, United Way, Adult Day Care, Inc., YWCA and the Veterans Memorial, Inc.
West Hawaii Delegate: Nick Yamasaki
Nick Yamasaki is the co-owner of Wes Thomas Associates a land surveying company in Kona. He has served on the West Hawaii District Board for the past three years and was their former Treasurer. In the past Nick was an active high school player and placed within the top 10 in the state. He has captained numerous leagues and placed in sectionals for many years. Nick has been an official for the past five years and is active in local events and tournaments. He is the father of two little girls, Mia and Norah and continues to participate in the growth of tennis.
