Grants Summary
The USTA offers a variety of grants to help grow the game of tennis in many ways. Below please find a short description of each grant, along with key dates and requirements. Feel free to contact grants@usta.com for further information and questions.

PLAYER DEVELOPMENT GRANTS
The USTA has decided, as an organization, to invest more resources into Player Development. The Player Development staff will award grants to players it feels is deserving based on performance and potential. The Player Development staff encourages players to utilize all of the facilities and services that the USTA has to offer (including, but not limited to, the following: working with our National Coaching Staff and utilizing the USTA Training Center in Boca Raton, Florida, the USTA West Coast Training Center in Carson, California, and USTA Certified Regional Training Centers in Atlanta, Georgia, Washington, D.C. and others that may be identified during 2009). The goal of the USTA Player Development Staff is to help as many young, talented players as possible.
The General Manager for Player Development, along with the Director of Coaching, Head of Men’s Tennis and the Head of Women’s Tennis administer the Player Development Grants. These grants are provided to players under the following scenarios:
- Players with whom the USTA Player Development Staff is working with on a full-time basis. In return, the player will need to participate in the USTA Player Development Program, which will include spending a significant amount of time at one of our designated facilities. Communication will be clear, understood and the arrangement will be mutually agreed upon by both parties prior to entering into the relationship.
- Players who are in a coaching situation that is working well for them, but where the USTA can provide support (mutually agreed upon by both parties). In return for this support, the USTA will develop a working relationship with the player and his/her coach to assist the player in reaching his/her maximum potential. Communication will be clear, understood and the arrangement will be mutually agreed upon by both parties prior to entering into the relationship.
- Players who are in a coaching situation that is working for them and who may not necessarily want or need support from the USTA. In these situations, USTA support will be limited.
Players do not have to complete an application for this grant but must complete an agreement before receiving these grants. Once grants have been determined, letters are sent to players informing them of their grant amount. Players are expected to complete their grant agreement by the deadline date listed and disbursements will be made once that process has been completed. These grants will be determined on a semi-annual basis, according to the following schedule:
First Period: Decisions made at the end of February and players will be able to request reimbursement once their grant letter has been signed and returned.
Second Period: Decisions made at the end of August and players will be able to request reimbursement once their grant letter has been signed and returned.

Jean Fitzgerald Scholarship Fund
The scholarship was established by Dennis Fitzgerald in memory of his wife, Jean. Jean was a very active participant in the Hawaii Pacific Tennis Association. She served on the Board of Directors during her formative years, was chair of the Executive Director Selection Committee and was Head of Umpires. During her life, Jean encouraged young players to continue their education so that they might excel in life as well as on the court. The aim of the scholarship is to carry on this encouragement. Application deadline: March 2, 2009
Specific eligibility criteria:
- Be female
- Be entering freshman year in college
- Be an active member of the USTA/Hawaii Pacific Section for at least four years
