Junior Team Tennis

WHAT IS JUNIOR TEAM TENNIS?
USTA Jr. Team Tennis is a national youth tennis league played in all 50 states. It is a 8 to 12 week program of team practice and match play for boys and girls to get together to play singles, doubles, and mixed doubles against other teams. It promotes values you would expect from any sport by fostering a spirit of cooperation, unity and individual self-worth. Also, it’s a fun environment for kids where they learn that succeeding is really more about how you play the game – win or lose.
Age Divisions - 10 & under, 12 & under, 14 & under, 16 & under, and 18 & under
Skill Divisions - NTRP 2.5 level, 3.0 level, 3.5 level, 4.0 level, and Open level.

SPRING 2012

We look forward to another fun season on the courts with the kids and appreciate your involvement with the league. When forming your team, remember to check each player’s record to determine proper placing. Check Tennis Link to access your players’ records for last season. For all players that competed in the Winter Section Championships, calculate their winning percentage by combining the season and sectional match results. Defaulted matches do not count when determining a player’s win/loss percentage.

Please remember that you’ll need to register at least (6) players when submitting a team by TUESDAY, 1/31, along with your Team Confirmation Form. I would like to ensure that once teams are submitted, we can avoid any teams dropping out and changes to the schedule once it is made.

New for this season – it is recommended that two coaches be listed per team, however if additional coaches are submitted, a $5 fee (subject to change with notice) shall be charged, per coach, for their criminal background screening. Also, please check with me if you need confirmation whether or not your background check is currently valid. The background screening is valid for one year and must be repeated annually.

Commonly asked question: What is the breakdown of lateral divisions?
2.5 – all lateral, if age eligible
        3.0(12) – no lateral
        3.0(14) – no lateral
        3.0(16) – 3.5(14) lateral
        3.0(18) – 3.5(14) lateral
        3.5(12) – 3.0(14) lateral
        3.5(14) – 3.0(16) or 3.0(18) lateral
        3.5(16) – no lateral
        3.5(18) – no lateral
        4.0(18) – no lateral
Open – both lateral, if age eligible

If you have players seeking teams or if you are seeking players, please e-mail Albert Murata at wi5tennis@hawaii.rr.com with the following information: Division, Name, Phone Number, and Team Name. He will then forward all inquiries back to all of you.

Finally, as some of you have expressed in the past, revisions of the rules or procedures are sometimes needed to improve our league. Your input is appreciated, however suggestions must be provided in writing (via e-mail).  All suggestions shall be voted on by the JTT committee. If approved, then it shall be proposed to the Junior Committee. Then finally, must be approved by the HPS/USTA Board of Directors.
