Grants and Scholarships

Making Tennis Make A Difference

The USTA offers a variety of grants to help grow the game of tennis in many ways. Below is a list of several areas with grants and scholarships that assist organizations and individuals. Feel free to contact Madeleine Dreith for further information and questions:



Muriel Osborne Hawaii Tennis AwardMuriel_Osborne

Muriel Osborne was first ranked #1 in Hawaii in the girls 18 and under division in 1941.  She dominated the rankings for the next 40 years in singles, doubles and mixed doubles.   When her children were grown she traveled to the mainland to play in the senior divisions.  She won 2 silver balls and earned national rankings with partners Doris Hakman and Lethia Hall.   In her memory, the Muriel Osborne Hawaii Women’s Tennis Fund was created to honor past, present and future women tennis players in Hawaii.

Nike Tennis Camp Junior Scholarships
The pupose of these scholarships are to provide THREE (3) Hawaii junior players, ages 13-18, with day scholarship packages to the Nike Tennis Camps hosted by the University of Hawaii this summer.

Junior Tennis Champions Center Camp Scholarships

The purpose of these Summer Camp Scholarships are to provide THREE (3) of Hawaii’s high performance junior players a training opportunity with  world-class coaching staff and national- level tournament players from around the country at the Junior Tennis Champions Center in College Park, Maryland.

Hattie Somerville Scholarship

In memory of Hawaii tennis legend, Harriet "Hattie" Somerville, a scholarship program has been erected in her name. Hattie's love for children inspired these youth scholarships. Her activism in the sport throughout her life grew tennis in Hawaii tremendously.

Kahiau Youth Tennis Scholarship


These scholarships are to provide financial assistance to enable participation in youth tennis programs and events both locally and nationally. Registration and Developmental Scholarships are available.

Junior Competition District Scholarships

  1. These scholarships offer support to qualified junior competitors who incure travel expenses for junior competition i.e. national competitive play.

Diversity / Multicultural Scholarships

Diversity & Inclusion grants offer financial support to:
  1. Athletes of ethnic or diverse backgrounds.
  2. High performance tennis programs that serve to develop players of ethnic or racially diverse backgrounds OR that serve low-income junior tennis players and enable them to use their tennis ability to secure a college education.
