Honolulu Masters Open at the Oahu Club in Hawaii Kai draws talented pool of players that compete for Honolulu Challenger Wildcard entry.
University of Hawai`i men’s tennis player Leo Rosenberg takes the Honolulu Masters Open with a 6-4, 6-3 straight set win over Hawaii Pacific University's top player, Daniel Luedi. With the win, Rosenberg earns an automatic wildcard into the 2010 Honolulu Pro Challenger, an USTA event to be held in January. Rosenberg, seeded fourth in the tournament, had a stellar freshman season at UH, reaching an ITA singles ranking of No. 84 in February 2009. His match clinched UH's second straight WAC Tournament title as he was named to the all-tournament team. His earlier notable experience includes world travels with team mates Donald Young and Dennis Lajola when their U14 team won the world championship in Czech Republic.
This year's Honolulu Masters Open was designated as the 2009 Hawaii Open Section Championship. This Open Men's and Women's event is exclusive to Hawaii residents and students. In addition to the 60 points towards their section ranking, the Men's Open singles champion receives a Singles Wildcard entry into the Main Draw of the Honolulu Challenger in January 2010.
